Interview to Uncle Creepy (Steve Barton) from DreadCentral.com

1.-You are a great reference for fans who are looking for good horror… It sounds easy and you know it´s not… How do you achieve it?
Thanks, man! How did I achieve it? Lots and lots of luck! Honestly, I met former Fangoria editor Tony Timpone about ten years ago. Turns out we were actually neighbors and didn't know it. From there we started hanging out a bit, and before you know it he gave me a gig working on the Fango website. From there I moved on to various other companies until finally taking the leash off of my neck and opening a company of my own, DreadCentral.com, with my two partners Jon Condit and KW Low.

2.-On every media and every genre horror is growing and making masterpieces, should we enjoy it or maybe theres going to be a big hang over?
Enjoy it while you can, man. The really good horror nowadays is coming from other countries including Mexico. In fact, you guys are kicking a lot of spooky fucking ass down there.

3.-Tell us a litle about the magic (work)… how does every day in horror candy land is…?
It's busy. Busier than you'd ever think. Simply put my work day starts about 9:00AM PST and ends about 3:00AM PST. It's like that just about every day. You have to keep moving to keep up with it all. People want news as it happens. They don't want to have to wait for it, like I had to back in the day for Fangoria or something to come out. Still, I'm not complaining at all. I'm really blessed to do what I do for a living and it's because of people like you, the fans, that I can. You're the blood in my veins, man. I love you, guys.

4.- As an horror fan I ask you… there´s Lovecraft, Poe, Carrol, but beyond them … Is there any rare gem of american crazyness we should know more?
Horror, like anything else, is really subjective to the auidence. One man's trash is another's treasure. We sit through tons of Movies every year and while we consider some to be winners and some to be losers, our opinions are no better or worse than any one elses. My best advice. See and experience all that you can. You never know where the good stuff is gonna come from anymore.

5.- Tell us also a litle about the history so far of Dread Central?
Dread Central started on July 4th, 2006. They day the USA declared its Independence to the world, and the day we said "fuck you" to corporate America and decided to do this on our own. Here we are four years later and we've never been doing better.

6.- Besides horror wich other interest your have?
Music and video games. I swear if I weren't killing things or people on the regular while on XBOX I'd be in jail right now. It's how I blow off steam, ya know?

7.-After years of working on the horror field, you find people in this kind of business are different from others because….
Believe it or not, the people I work with in the horror industry are the best and most kindest you'd could ever hope to meet. Everyone is general is really laid back and there aren't too many dicks out there that are looking to act like primadonnas. Horror celebrities are the best and most thoughtful. I've never seen a sports figure sign autographs for fans until everyone had gotten one, but I see cases like that all the time in horror. I'm so proud to be a part of such a great community.

8.- In your opinion why does rock-porn-horror-politics collide so good together?
Since the caveman days sex, drum beating, and violence have gone together hand-in-hand. Why try and change now? LOL!

9.- Recommend me the best fucking movie (any genre) in the world? (one only)
George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead. It broke all the rules and defined an entire genre while doing so. I can't think of a single more influential movie. It changed my life upon seeing it, and I'm sure it's done the same for thousands of other folks too.

10.- Are you in contact with mexican horror?
Contact with it? I love it! The world can learn a few hundred things from Mexican horror. You guys aren't just on the cutting edge, you keep that fuckin' blade razor sharp!
