2. - Why do you think people are so attracted to hairy girls?
I think part of it is very primal. It is an erotic element that many people simply appreciate. I think also, it’s a maturity thing. We respect powerful, mature, fully pubescent, erotic, female energy. I was at a party recently where several girls who were shaved were dancing and I could not help but be struck by how they looked like little children. I think we appreciate hair because we are adults who respect the sexuality of other adults.
3. - Do you find a little disturbing that males don’t shave and girls have to? (In order to obey social rules)
I suppose you could ask, is it disturbing that men must cut their hair while women can wear theirs long to obey social rules? It does not disturb me in the least if someone wishes to fit into a social norm. It does however disturb me if anyone feels pressured to fit into such a norm or are unable to express himself or herself in an alternate way if they so choose.
4. - Which are the rules for every shoot on Hippie Goddess?
The main rule that we insist on is for the model to avoid falling off of any trees or rocks to avoid hurting them selves =). Other than that we are pretty loose as far as rules. We try to have fun, enjoy ourselves, and not offend the community around us. Structurally we break the shoots into five sets at about ten minutes a piece, and ask the models to try and have about 4 hours to spend with us in order to have enough time to hike around and create the images and video.
5. - How do you feel when you see girls who are shaved or not hairy?
I have no problem with girls who are shaved. I find the female form to be beautiful in all cases. I certainly feel badly for anyone who is shaved because they are pressured to do so but I would also feel the same if someone were hairy and pressured to be that way.
6. - If Hippie Goddess was a music record how would it sound?
It would sound very different each day. Some days it would be ‘Muddy Waters’ grooving by the river. Other days, ‘The Grateful Dead’ would rise up from the beaches or perhaps ‘Tom Waits’ would seg-way into ‘The String Cheese Incident’ as we bop along the rocks and boulders of a mountain.

7. - By doing your work for nearly a decade, do you feel you have achieved something for women rights?
In a very small way, yes. The traditional feminist viewpoint has often de-emphasized the sensual and erotic as being part of a patriarchal view. However, it tends to be the patriarchy who insist that women wear a veil and cover her ankles. It is a neo-feminist idea that woman embrace they’re sensual and sexual goddess form as a powerful and natural thing. I think some ways that we have helped by showing that the erotic can be natural is a small step forward.
8. - Who are your favorite artists (photographers, painters, cloth designers) in the hippie-natural field?
Musically, David tends to remain fairly loyal to ‘The Grateful Dead’ along with several other jam bands such as String Cheese Incident, Hamsa lila, and a few others as well as Blues and classic rock such as the ‘Beatles’ and ‘Bob Dylan’. We are always learning about new music from the Goddess who have an amazing range in their tastes. We are not much into ‘Clothing lines’ though Diana, The Goddess of Battle, does produce some amazing clothing.
9. - Love your art department who is the creative mind behind it?
We have some older photoshop manipulations that David did as well as a few other artists. We need to update that section. David also does our music videos as well as web design. One artist featured, David Porter, has been a tremendous help both artistically and musically. Many of his songs can be found in the music videos under his band’s name ‘Obscure Obsession’.
10. - Even though there are a lot of hairy sites, and we know the dangers of shaving, do you think hairy girls are still going to be subversive icons?
I think hairy girls will always be a subversive icon as long as the culture embraces the shaved and manicured look. However, one can never say what cultural norms may appear in the future.
