1. You take pictures of well known girls, you even make them look extra great, but still manage to capture the true personality of each one of them, how do you do it?
That’s an easy one to answer. First, I LOVE women! Always have and always will. I love everything about women. Second, I’ve been shooting for many years and it’s what I do. Creating art is like breathing for me. I do not think, I just do. Third, I work hard to push myself and the grrls to be the best, no matter what. I will not settle for anything less and I make sure we have fun doing it. Last, I love my life and my work. I am passionate about both and I believe that is what you see when you look at my art.

2. I don't like to put labels on nobody’s work, but yours seems to be edgy, intelligent, elegant and sensual. Do you believe that work like yours helps people to be more open to new ways of erotic and porn art?
I hope so! I’ve worked hard to create something different. Most porn/erotica is boring and stale. Most of it you look at and forget. I’ve labored to create images that are memorable. So far, so good. The talent loves my work and loves working with me, so I know I’m doing something right. The audience is catching on and following me along this journey of erotica. I’m completely driven and filled with a million ideas, so people will never get bored with my imagery. I don’t do boring ever!

3. Can you share with us some of the things that goes through your mind, once you know that you are going to shoot a new girl?
Funny you ask this today. I’m shooting a new grrl for the next two days. The legendary and simply perfect Miko Lee. We are going to play for the next two days and have some fun. I do not think of it as work or treat it that way. It’s all about having fun! Today I am prepping for her, and I’m doing my homework. I go through my library of books, magazine and movies. Fill my head with images and ideas. I create a shot list with about 25 solid ideas. Since I am a director as well, I’m a big believer in pre-production and the shot list. I don’t waste time or energy during a shoot trying to figure out what to do next. We get more done and have more fun when I have a plan. The grrls love it because I know what I want and I’ll get it by the time we are done.

4. You work with a lot of amazing girls, but there’s is always a favorite…. Tell us please who is the one that makes your knees weak?
Two words... Audrey Bitoni. She is my muse, my friend and my partner in crime. I can never get enough with her. We have a special connection and a great respect for each other. That helps when creating art. Also we just laugh the whole time we are together. I love her much!

5. For the people who are not familiar with the podcast section on Juliland, tell us what is all about?
The HeyJuli podcast started out with my partner Juli Ashton. When we launched the site 5 years ago. Juli had a show on Playboy Radio. After she left I wanted to use her talents and create our own show. It has evolved into many types of interviews with many types of people. It was first audio and now is video. It’s all fun and I like to show a fun side of these famous grrls that I see everyday. We are expending on it now and you will soon see bigger and better. Watch for it!

6. Who can you mention as a real influence on Richard Avery work?
There are few BIG influences... Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, David Baily, Peter Lindbergh for photographers. David Fincher, Ridley Scott, Danny Boyle for directors. Where I get most of my inspiration is from fashion! I love magazines like Harper’s Bazaar, W, Vogue and more. That is the look and feel I go for with my work. I feel that any of my images could fit in with any fashion magazine out there. It’s just that my grrls are naked and being nasty!! That is a good thing!

7. Which is the music that makes Richard Avery begin to shake his bones?
That’s a great question. The music that gets me going for my work is Underworld! If you listen to what we create on our movies you will hear it big time. Also when I need to get my head filled with images I watch Underworld’s movie Everything, Everything. It’s amazing, and makes me see things! Next to my work, I’m a huge music lover. I love all types of music and that helps me when I need to create, relax and have fun.

8. You have been prolific for nearly 2 decades (maybe more) do you have some nostalgic feelings for the way work was in the 90´s?
Funny! I’m not that old. I do miss the good old days for some things (mainly the budgets were bigger and I made a lot more money), but I also love where I am going. I’m doing the best work I have ever done. I’m only going to get better. My passion for my work is coming through and people are catching on. The past was great, but the future is going to be fucking awesome!!! Trust me.

9. The fashion on every girl looks cool, who is the one behind this?
The grrls and I collaborate on the ideas. Most of it comes from me. I’m very much a minimalist and like things simple. If you notice there are NOT a lot of “outfits” in my photos. I like the grrls to shine and sometimes too many clothes gets in the way. My favorite outfit on a grrl is oil and water or just a pair of sexy heels. Keeping it simple helps make the images last longer and not become dated. I do not follow trends, I run from them. Like any good art, the simplest art last the longest and never gets boring.

10. Working with girls all your life is great, but one thing you should know about women before working with them is...
They’re never dull, always fun, simply crazy, always beautiful and they taste as good as they look.
