1.- You have worked with black-death metal royalty, are you always in to metal or you enjoy other music genres?
MARCELO - I'm a really eclectic person and I listen all kind of good music, but I assume my favorite style of music is the power of heavy metal and all its subdivisions, mainly the extreme metal vein! I already did some work for non-metal bands as also for studios, labels, stores, schools, fashion&clothes among others... but nothing really important. My focus is on METAL and it's what make me proud!
2.- Tell us a little how do you become an artist and wich other ilustrators inspired your work?
MARCELO - It started since my youth in small proportions. I used to draw monsters when I was a kid in the school. I remember very well when a colleague showed me a cool cassette of Iron Maiden "Killers" and I love that Eddie image on the cover! After that I had a huge interest on metal music and I kept it until nowadays, like a pleasant virus! Also pretty early I became a fanatic for horror, science-fiction and war movies! These conceptions was growing on me during years but only with my 15 years old I started to study graphic design by own and I also started to work for friends. It was such a great experience for me until I started the graphic design university and go deeper and deeper. Was like a natural choice I think! I have been worked for about 15 years and professionally since 2000.
My biggest inspiration came from the genial HR Gigger, but I'm also fan of artists like Frank Frazetta, Michael Whelan, Kristian Wåhlin, Travis Smith, Joachim Luetke, Chris Moyen, Kris Verwimp, among many others!!!
3.- I sense a big cinematography influence in your work, which are the movies that make Marcelo open his eyes wide?
MARCELO - No doubt! I'm a cinema addict and it's a great part of my influence on my artwork! It's hard to say only a few movies, but let's try... Alien, The Shining, Evil Dead, The Exorcist, Hellraiser, Conan, The Omen Trilogy, The Night Of The Living Dead, Chainsaw Texas Massacre, Friday 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street,, Fire In The Sky, Intruders, Halloween, Dracula, Krull, Mad Max, Clash Of The Titans among tons of others...
4.- Please tell us the process of creating a piece of your beautiful work?
MARCELO - Thanks for your nice words bro! Well, first of all the client send me the main conception, album title and sometimes lyrics and other particular ideas where I could work as a start-point. Then I work on a rough idea and I show to the band. If they approve the way, I go deeper working on better colors, all details and textures until the reach the perfect final result, and then I finish it. I create my artworks 98% digitally, using photo manipulation and 2% of my own trace & drawings, but at the same time, being a digital artist, I don't like so much that boring photoshoped cut n'paste stuff, then I try to give a real painting feeling when I have the opportunity! I think a mix of the new with the old-school art sounds really interesting and through this way I'm trying to find my own style and personality!

5.- How many times you have ended a work and then the client tell you, well maybe we can add this and that?
MARCELO - Million of times haha Actually it happens during the process, not after finished. It's normal and part of the job for the bigger part of the commissioned artworks I usually do, but I'm happier, satisfied and I reach my best artworks when the band gives me the conception and total freedom to work based on this! Generally when it happens I got my master-pieces :) Otherwise they only use me like a tool and sometimes it just doesn't fit so well. It's boring! Today I'm a bit more selective guy exactly cause I hate to do something I judge visually bad!
6.- Name tree of your favorite works?
MARCELO - Fuck, that's a really hard question! 99% of my artworks are like part of me, but if I have to list it I would say some of my latest ones commissioned artworks: BORKNAGAR Universal, THORNIUM Fides Luciferius and EXHORTATION The Essence of Apocalypse.
7.-Besides metal and rock bands, what other kind of artwork you enjoy, and also work on it?
MARCELO - Well, as a cinema addict I still have a dream to work in a cooperation to some cinema producer! Not necessarily with horror productions! Maybe in the future, we never know!
Actually I enjoy any kind of honest art! I like very much bio-mechanical artworks, natural landscapes and that impressive "hyper realistic 3D street paintings".
8.- Are you a comic fan?
MARCELO - I'm not sure if I can say it since I don't read or collect comic books, but of course the visual approach is amazing and I really enjoy this kind of art! I was a big fan of that old Conan and Dracula comic books when I was younger. Probably a strong influence for me!
9.- Who are your favorite painters?
MARCELO - Gustave Doré, Leonardo DaVinci, Vincent Van Gogh, Monet, Michelangelo, Picasso, Delacroix...
10.- Which has been the coolest reaction that somebody has shown when they saw your art?
MARCELO - Ugly words are always the best reception haha When I can feel they're happy and very satisfied with my work! The coolest reaction is always when I reach perfectly the image and conception of the band but in a higher stage, cause sometimes they even can imagine that the idea could turned out so great. The possibility to use my own mind and vision through the band's ideas is the most stunning thing on this business! It's a great sum of energy and when there's freedom to exercise the imagination without any barrels we can create together a really impressive, original and surprising illustration. When this shit happens is when I love my job!!!
